Thrust 1: Target Physics

RISE Thrust 1 establishes a robust 3-D hydrodynamic design framework and delivers Inertial Fusion Energy (IFE) target designs for Polar Direct-Drive (PDD) laser drivers.

  • Leveraging published data from over 400+ laser direct-drive data sets from experiments on the OMEGA and the National Ignition Facility (NIF) lasers, Thrust 1 performs detailed simulations and benchmarks multiple modeling choices. This work is critical to validate Los Alamos National Laboratory’s xRage hydrodynamic code.

  • The validated framework is used to scale target performance to future IFE laser drivers in the 10 MJ energy regime, providing a foundation for high-yield fusion energy systems.
