Advancing Inertial Fusion Energy
RISE develops technologies and infrastructure to advance Inertial Fusion Energy, a potentially unlimited and sustainable energy source.

RISE develops technologies and infrastructure to advance Inertial Fusion Energy, a potentially unlimited and sustainable energy source.

Funded by the U.S. Department of Energy’s Office of Science, Fusion Energy Sciences , RISE is one of three coordinated hubs within the Inertial Fusion Energy Science and Technology Accelerated Research (IFE-STAR) Ecosystem. RISE brings together cutting-edge target designs with advances in excimer gas lasers and solid-state laser drivers to unlock new regimes in inertial fusion energy.
The hub is also committed to cultivating the next-generation fusion workforce through robust student engagement and partnerships across universities, industry, and national laboratories.
Accelerate progress in inertial fusion energy (IFE) through innovation and collaboration.
Demonstrate novel concepts and technologies that support the scalability of high-wall plug efficient laser systems for IFE plants.
Advance target fabrication for mass production.
Validate IFE target designs through modeling and experiments.
Train the future workforce in fusion science and technology.
